This is a sketch of a character I created for the DAC Apocalypse challenge. The challenge was to create a character to exist in a post-apocalyptic setting. Ally was not the first thing that came to mind when I read the challenge, but she is the one that stuck.Ally was a normal 15-year-old girl - until aliens attacked. Spaceships the size of cities descended on every major population centre, sending out drones in the millions to capture every person they could find. Impervious to any man-made weapon, nothing could stand in their way. Humanity fell in a single night. Every man, woman and child was taken on board one of the massive ships that now cover the sky, blocking out every drop of natural sunlight. Everyone but Ally, as far as she knows. When the drones came to her house and took her parents they saw Ally, and they scanned her, then they left her alone and trembling on her bed. Because Ally was wearing her adult animal onesie the drones had pattern-matched her for a cat and dismissed her as a household pet.
Now she can never take it off. It's been 3 months since the end of the world and she survives. There's plenty of canned food to eat. The shops lie abandoned, the city empty. When the drones come by she hides under her hood and they leave her alone. She wanders the streets looking for survivors, or some clue as to what happened to the people taken to the ships, but so far she had found nothing. All she can do is keep living and hope there are others out there doing the same.
Ally was sketched with mechanical pencil. Adult animal onesie referenced from www.kigu.co.uk. Hopefully I'll manage to colour it at some point, but the first attempt came out far too bright. I quite like the bleakness of the b&w pencil sketch along with the silliness of her costume
